Dermatophyte (Fungal) Infection - Skin

Terbinafine is fungicidal: treatment time shorter than with fungistatic imidazoles.

If intractable, send skin scrapings for culture.

Systemic therapy is appropriate in adults if topical therapy fails, if many areas affected or if the site of infection is difficult to treat.  Seek specialist advice in children.
