Important: Therapy
- Take infection prevention and control precautions.
- Frequently self limiting and may not be bacterial.
- Antibacterials are not usually indicated.
- If bloody diarrhoea, severe systemic upset, immunocompromised patient or returning traveller discuss with medical microbiology or infectious disease specialist.
- Send faecal samples, and blood for culture if pyrexial.
- Consider immune deficiency and testing for HIV.
