MRSA

First Line - localised disease

Therapy

Fusidic acid 2% cream topical for 5 days

If MRSA confirmed or suspected - Mupirocin 2% cream topical for 5 days

Use topical route for very localised infections only

Notes:

If recurrent, send swabs for culture

First Line - widespread disease

Therapy

Flucloxacillin PO for 7 days

If MRSA confirmed or suspected, discuss with microbiology

Notes:

Send swabs or scrapings for C+S

Penicillin Allergy - widespread disease

Therapy

Clarithromycin PO for 7 days.

If MRSA confirmed or suspected, discuss with microbiology.
