Neutropenic Sepsis (Neutrophil count <1 x109/L)

First Line

Important: Therapy

Piperacillin / tazobactam IV  +/- gentamicin IV

Anaphylaxis (including severe skin reactions) to penicillin / cephalosporin

Important: Therapy

Meropenem IV +/- gentamicin IV

 

Important: Notes

If patient has central line or history of MRSA, consider addition of vancomycin

If patient still pyrexial at 48-72 hours, discuss with microbiology or Paediatric ID clinician

Once apyrexial for 5 days, consider stopping antibiotic treatment if no positive cultures.
