Usually causative agents are anaerobes, Streptococcus species or Enterobacteriacae.

First Line

Therapy

Cefotaxime 2g IV 6 hourly, increased if necessary to 12g daily in 3-4 divided doses

+

Metronidazole 500mg IV 8 hourly
